¡AY! ¡YA! is an illusion that leads us to perceive reality in different ways suggested by the imagination or caused by the deception of the sense of sight. An effect that shows that our eyes are not video cameras that record everything that happens, but that our brain interprets and reprocesses the information provided by our senses

¡AY! ¡YA! is an exercise on the gaze. That illusion that occurs when the image before us is transformed into another, multiplies or takes impossible forms. Bodies with various limbs, incomplete, transformable and moldable. A performative dance piece designed for all audiences!

¡AY! ¡YA! is a simple game that shows us two scenes at the same time. The real scene, where we see the performers in action, and the fictional one where the spectators are able to compose the images that occur to them.

¡AY! ¡YA! is twelve visual poems that, without a context, generate discussions about the body. An empty space that the audience must fill.

Please note

The performance of Mon 03 Mar is 8+. The performance of Tue 04 Mar is 6+.

About the company

Macarena Recuerda Shepherd is a pseudonym used by artist Lidia Zoilo González, under which she has performed for almost ten years. Macarena Recuerda manifests herself as a visual and performance artist who has created a range of very different pieces. Krokusfestival 2024 invited her with The watching machine, a play with light, shadow and reflections to examine the concept of ‘illusion’.

“¡Ay! ¡Ya! is a fun gymnastic exercise for our gaze. A laugh and a contemplation that extract us from the usual places we inhabit and connect us to other, not so usual places. And how nice it is to be able, from time to time, to leave those habitual places! And how nice it is to enjoy optical illusions just for fun!”
